An inmate-initiated medical request carries a $5 charge deducted from the inmate account, but WCSO says medical will still see an inmate without funds.

Food service includes three meals daily under County Health Department-approved conditions, with menus certified for minimum daily adult requirements. Religious services may be held twice weekly, and requests for minister conferences or religious rites must be submitted in writing. Pastoral visits are coordinated through Captain Ben Cornelius at 770-266-1543. Personal property left after transfer or sentencing must be picked up within 10 days after the inmate leaves the detention facility or it will be disposed of.

Walton County Jail Booking

WCSO confirms booking as a jail function, and the roster fields show how booking becomes public. The public record can include date confined, incarceration date, arrest date, arrest type, arrest agency, arrest location, offense date, offense description, related incident, court, court reference, bail amount, bail type, and housing location. Medical screening, housing assignment, and first appearance happen outside the simple row shown on the public list.

Uniform Superior Court Rules and O.C.G.A. § 17-4-62 make early court timing important. Unless bond has already been made, a person arrested without a warrant must be brought before a judicial officer within 48 hours, and a person arrested with a warrant within 72 hours under the rule. Bond terms can change at that stage, so call the jail before using a cached roster amount.

Walton County Jail History

Walton County's jail-studies page documents a long public planning history. Discussions for a new or upgraded jail began in 2009. Grand-jury summaries in 2010 and 2011 recorded inmate counts above the 376-bed facility and emphasized the need for more space. In 2013, the county described overcrowding as untenable and said overflow was managed by using Barrow and Oglethorpe Counties for a daily fee.
